Dear OVE Families,
We are off to a great start to the new school year! We are excited to welcome several new staff members to Orchard View Elementary. They have done a fantastic job learning our routines and culture while bringing new ideas, energy, and excitement to our school and learning environment.
Our kindergarten and first grade students have just completed the universal language screener, Acadience. Next week, our second grade students will complete a similar language screener. We use these assessments to help identify and support students who may benefit from early literacy interventions. Many of our kindergarten through second grade students have also completed portions of the Universal Screener for Number Sense (USNS), a new state requirement designed to help us identify and support students who need additional assistance with number sense—a foundational skill for future math learning.
Later this month, our third graders will participate in the ILEARN Checkpoint, which provides valuable information aligned with the state ILEARN assessment in April. While there is a lot of testing, what matters most is how we use the results to better understand each student's needs and provide targeted instruction and support.
As important as this may be, the relationships we build with our students and families are what truly make a difference. These relationships are at the heart of what makes OVE such a special place and help create the sense of family and academic community that supports our mission: Ensuring all students achieve at high levels in a safe and supportive environment.
As I begin my eighth year at OVE, I am incredibly proud of how far we have come and excited about where we are headed. Thank you for entrusting us with your children. We value your partnership, appreciate your input, and encourage you to be actively involved in our school community.
