Dear OVE Families,
It’s hard to believe we are entering the final month of the school year! This has been an incredible year of learning, growth, and success for our students, and we are so grateful for your continued support, partnership, and commitment to helping our students soar to new heights during the 2025–2026 school year.
We have an exciting and busy month ahead filled with fun events and important activities!
Staff Appreciation Week will be celebrated May 4th–8th, and we encourage families to take a moment to send a message or note of thanks to our incredible staff for all they do each day. Our teachers, paraprofessionals, office staff, custodians, cafe staff and support teams go above and beyond to create a safe, caring, and engaging learning environment for every child. They invest countless hours planning meaningful lessons, supporting students academically and emotionally, and building strong relationships that make a lasting impact.
Beginning May 4th, our NWEA testing window opens for students in kindergarten through second grade. These assessments measure reading and math skills and help us gauge student progress over time. They also provide valuable information that allows us to monitor how we are doing in meeting students where they are academically and supporting them in moving forward in their learning. This data helps teachers make informed instructional decisions and ensure that each child receives the support and challenge they need to continue growing.
On May 8th, we will celebrate our school-wide reading success through Beanstack (school wide reading challenge) along with our ILEARN Dance Party—an exciting way to recognize students’ hard work and achievements.
Field Day will take place on May 26th (with a make-up day on May 27th) and will feature a fun Western theme. Students will receive bandanas, enjoy bounce houses and popsicles provided by PTO. We will have an outdoor cookout and our legendary fire truck visit and hosing is scheduled to take place as well. Please have your child bring a towel, and teachers will communicate if a change of clothes is recommended. We will wrap up the year with our 2nd and 3rd grade talent show on May 28th, along with a special visit from former OVE students who are graduating high school, followed by our traditional 3rd grade graduation walk.
Thank you again for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to finishing the school year strong and making this final month one to remember!
Fly Eagles Fly,
Mr. Martin

From Mrs. Palmer

Summer break is almost here! While exciting, this time of year can also bring stress, culminating events, and, for many families, new behavioral changes or anxiety in children as routines shift.
Please remember to take care of yourselves and create space for the little things—a walk, relaxing in the sun, or just quiet time at home might be exactly what’s needed.
If you are navigating challenges or need support this summer, the Boys and Girls Club offers fantastic resources, including:
  • Early bird and regular programming
  • Activities for elementary, middle, and high school students
Visit their website for more information: https://www.greatfutures.club/clubs/middlebury-club/ or call them directly at (574) 825-0873.
While I am out of the office over the summer, I do check my email regularly. Please do not hesitate to reach out if needed: palmerl@mcsin-k12.org
