Dear OVE Families,
A huge thank you to all the families who supported our school fundraiser by helping students collect donations! We exceeded our goal of $7,500, and students earned all of the incentives. To celebrate, we’ll be awarding a fun incentive each day during the week of October 13th. I’m still working up the courage before committing to the day I’ll be duct-taped to the wall—but we’ll be sure to share that date with students soon!

Our K–2 students recently completed the fall NWEA assessments. These assessments give us important insights into student learning and help us adjust instruction to better support their needs. A ParentSquare message will be sent to families soon—please watch for details about when results will be sent home with students.

During the first full week of October, we will be sending home a flyer with information about fall parent/teacher conferences, scheduled for Monday, October 20th, and Wednesday, October 22nd. This year, OVE is transitioning to ParentSquare for conference sign-ups. I’m excited about this change because it allows parents/guardians to schedule in real time and easily coordinate if you have multiple children at OVE. If you need to adjust your timeslot after signing up, you’ll also be able to make changes directly through the app.

Later this month, on October 7th and 15th, our third-grade students will be taking the ILEARN English Language Arts and Math Checkpoints. If you have a third-grade student, please do your best to ensure they are present on both days. Checkpoint data helps guide instruction and interventions aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards, supporting student learning throughout the year. End-of-year ILEARN (summative) assessments measure students’ mastery of the standards at the conclusion of the school year.

Lastly, It’s hard to believe, but October 22nd marks the 50th day of school! So far, our school-wide attendance has been outstanding. Students thrive on predictability and routines, and time away from school is difficult to make up. A big thank you to all parents and guardians who make daily, on-time attendance a priority. Your commitment is helping students build strong habits and foundational learning that are critical for future success!

Enjoy the fall season!

From Mrs. Palmer

We have been busy building hearts and brains these first nine weeks at OVE! During counseling lessons, Mrs. Palmer began the year with reminders about her role and how she can assist students. Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade learned about Whole Body Listening and Recognizing Feelings in Others, while 2nd and 3rd graders focused on developing a Growth Mindset. The Month of October is when all school counselors conduct Bullying lessons. These are state-mandated and are taken very seriously at Orchard View. Because of this, Mrs. Palmer began these lessons in September with the 5 Safety Rules. The three R's - Recognize, Report, Refuse - will create a common language throughout OVE and lessons that build from Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these lessons or if Mrs. Palmer can help in any way, don't hesitate to reach out. She can be contacted through Parent Square, email: palmerl@mcsin-k12.org, or direct phone line: 574-822-5289

From Ms. Aimee

  • If your child has borrowed clothes from the clinic, please launder and send them back to school.
  • Please consider packing a change of clothes for your student to keep in their locker in case of an accident or clothing issue.

Please call the office to report your child's attendance. You may tell the teacher if your child will be absent, but you must call the office so we can change the attendance code. Thank you!

LINQ Connect
Student Meal Accounts
OVE parents, did you know that you can easily deposit money into your student’s meal account? When you register with the Linq Connect website, you can make deposits, set up recurring deposits, OR just use the website to monitor what your child is purchasing in the OVE cafeteria. You can also set up notifications to let you know when your child’s balance is low. In addition, you can apply for free or reduced meals on the same website at any time during the school year. Go to linqconnect.com from any computer, tablet or mobile device and create a free account. There is also a mobile app available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store. Payment can be sent to school with your student in the form of cash or check payable to OVE. Please make sure the payment is clearly marked with your student's first and last name, and that your student turns their payment into their teacher first thing in the morning.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Gini Bennett, Bookkeeper, at 574-825-5094.
